Recovery of Scalesia pedunculata after the 1983 massive dieback
Scientific name : Scalesia pedunculata
Forests of Scalesia pedunculata, an endemic species of Compositae, suffered massive dieback due to the El Nino rainfall in 1982-1983. A few individuals that survived put flowers in the following year and bore achenes, which were dispersed in the surrounding areas where regeneration occurred. The sporadic high trees are Scalesia pedunculata and cat's claw (Zanthoxylum fagara).
