Commentary :  On the south slope of Santa Cruz, fern-sedge vegetation covers the highlands above 560 m in altitude. Exotic quinine trees invaded in the 1990s. This photograph, taken in 1991, shows the natural vegetation still remaining and records the initial phase of the naturalization of quinine trees. This area became a quinine community later. The triangular mountain in the distance is Mt. Puntudo.
